In 1334, Cremona was conquered by the Viscontis and became part of the Dukedom of Milano. In 1441, to celebrate the wedding between Bianca Maria Visconti and Francesco Sforza, Bianca Maria Visconti brought the town as a dowry and fostered its cultural and artistic renewal. The great "Renaissance" season started and went on during the Cinquecento with a refi ned local painters school which had Bembo, Boccaccio Boccaccino and Campi Brothers as protagonists. The musical tradition started with the "divine" Claudio Monteverdi, who was born in Cremona in 1567. Cremona is famous for the violinmaking. The skilled founder was liutaio violinmaker Andrea Amati. The activity was continued by Nicoḷ Amati, liutaio violinmaker Giuseppe Guarneri and by the supreme liutaio violinmaker Antonio Stradivari.
