Full day guided tour of Cremona, starting from the historical centre in the morning: the Duomo Square, the main square of the city, which in times gone by excelled to the point that it competed with Milan; the Torrazzo, symbol of Cremona, is 111 mt. high and it is the tallest bell tower in Europe; the Duomo (Cathedral), one of the most signifi cant religious sights in Northern Italy. Other precious buildings are the octagonal Baptistery, the Loggia dei Militi ( The Loggia of the Militia) and the Town Hall. Here, in the "Violins Room", there are some masterpieces of the violinmaking Cremonensis tradition ( Cremona is famous for its violinmaking tradition). Five violins remind the visitors of the founders who gave birth to the legendary Cremonensis art of making stringed instruments school: "Carlo IX di Francia" (1566) made by Andrea Amati; "Hammerle" (1658) made by Nicolò Amati; the most known "Cremonese" (1715) made by Antonio Stradivari; "Quarestani" (1689) made by Giuseppe Guarneri; "Stauffer" (1734) made by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù. In June 2003, Herbert and Evelyn Axelrod donated a precious Stradivari's violin to Cremona.
